TAD Fan Patch 1.1a
Posted by [NerVe]_VipeR_ - Jun 17 2009, 04:47 AM - 9 comments
user posted image

TAD Fan Patch 1.1a has just been released. It allows you to access ESO using the fan patch after you have upgraded to the new official Robot Entertainment patch. This patch is merely a compatibility update. The balance, bug, and map changes in this patch are exactly the same as those found in TAD Fan Patch 1.1. If you haven't tried the fan patch out yet, you can check out what we included in TAD Fan Patch 1.1 here.

You can find full download and installation instructions for TAD Fan Patch 1.1a at the link below.

DAMNIT becomes the newest staff member
Posted by [NerVe]_VipeR_ - May 28 2009, 04:16 AM - 12 comments
I know that applications for site staff were held some months ago, but recently we have seen a need for an even greater staff presence in these forums. DAMNIT offered his assistance, and after having a long chat with him I have decided to admit him to the site staff smile.gif

For those who do not know him, DAMNIT is a member of the TWC & TAD Expert Staff, is currently the sole TAD GOTW reviewer, and is the lead balance tester on our TAD fan patch development team. His expert replays as well as his contributions towards the fan patch have proven invaluable, and his ability to keep a cool head will benefit the moderation of this site a great deal. His efforts will be concentrated towards moderating the AoE3 forums.

Welcome to the staff thumbsup.gif

New patches are out!
Posted by [NerVe]_VipeR_ - Jun 10 2009, 11:30 PM - 23 comments
The new Robot Entertainment patches have been released today. If you'll recall, I made an announcement last week asking people to use our patch launcher to switch from Fan Patch 1.1 to ES 1.01a before trying to connect to ESO to download the new Robot patch. We're still advising people to take that same precaution.

If you wish to download the patches manually instead of through the in-game auto updater, you can do so at the links below:

TAD 1.02 | TWC 1.05 | AoE3 1.13

While you won't be able to use Fan Patch 1.1 to access ESO just yet, a compatibility update will be available soon. Please be patient and give us a few days to work on it and test it for bugs.

IMPORTANT: Robot patch installation
Posted by [NerVe]_VipeR_ - Jun 3 2009, 10:52 PM - 18 comments
I mentioned this in a previous news announcement, but I'm repeating it so that no one misses it. I'd hate to see people having to completely reinstall the game if the installation of the patch fails.

-----------------------------

I know that the Robot patch is not out yet, but this is important. When the patch is released, DO NOT open up ESO and let the auto-installer update to the new patch as normal.

Instead, use our fan patch launcher to first switch back to Ensemble's 1.01a patch, then open up the game and update to the Robot patch.

Installing the Robot patch over the top of FP 1.1 may lead to a corrupted install.

We will have a compatibility update available for FP 1.1 a few days after RE 1.02 is released, at which point you can switch back to the fan patch smile.gif

New AoE3, TWC & TAD patches
Posted by [NerVe]_VipeR_ - Jun 2 2009, 03:47 AM - 17 comments
Robot Entertainment community manager Aloysius announced on our forums today that new patches are in development for all of AoE3 (patch 1.13), TWC (patch 1.05) and TAD (patch 1.02). These patches will of course be official, meaning that your game will automatically download them when they are released - which will be some time later this week. This is a clear sign that Robot are very much concerned about this game and the AoE3 community, so we welcome the effort they have put into these patches.

TAD 1.02 Notes
TWC 1.05 Notes
AoE3 1.13 Notes

The AoE3 and TWC patches will make ship particle effects less laggy, reduce the occurrence of out-of-syncing, and fix the double deck exploit. The TAD patch will have balance changes in addition - making use of some of the AgeSanctuary fan patch team's work. The changes are for the most part drawn from Fan Patch 1.0, meaning that the changes we introduced in Fan Patch 1.1 won't be present.

This new Robot patch places the future of the fan patch in question. We released Fan Patch 1.1 some months ago, and are already well into the development of Fan Patch 1.2. When the Robot patch for TAD is released, you won't be able to access ESO using the fan patch. You will have to switch back to the ES patch, open ESO and wait for the Robot patch to download and install.

We are currently considering our options as to the future of the fan patching process. We have the options of releasing a compatibility update for Fan Patch 1.1 (meaning that you could continue using it), continuing development on Fan Patch 1.2 and eventually releasing that, or completely abandoning our fan patches and fully endorsing the Robot patch. This is the subject of a discussion in the fan patch private forum, and we will have an update for you folks on it soon.

AoE3 on N-Gage
Posted by [NerVe]_VipeR_ - May 18 2009, 03:51 AM - 17 comments
Age of Empires 3 is now available on the N-Gage. It is a prequel to the events in the PC version of the game, with the player tasked to defend Malta in the year 1565 against the besieging Ottoman Empire.

You can buy it or download a trial version at n-gage.com. In addition, they have developed a useful game guide at ageofempiresgameguide.com.

Thanks to rumail for spotting this.

AoE3 Simple ELO Ladders
Posted by [NerVe]_VipeR_ - May 17 2009, 03:36 AM - 34 comments
user posted image

Following the recent news that Elorating.com would be closing down, the Japanese community have been developing a new rating ladder site of their own. Matsujun announced the launch of this new service on our forums today, stating that the site is still in development and may contain some bugs. If you find any, please report them here.

AoE3 Simple Elo Ladders

They started collecting game data from the 4th of May onwards, and will not be carrying over any data from Elorating.com. That means everybody starts from scratch, which while not ideal is better than having no ladders at all!

Elorating.com closing down

fast_tam, administrator at elorating.com, has posted the following message on our forums:

QUOTE
Unfortunately I have some bad news for you... elorating will stop operation in the next month or so. The costs are much higher than the income through adsense. The last months its getting even worser.

To make some facts: elorating.com eats up about 130 EUR per month. In contrast, the advertising earning has fallen to about 50 USD (about 35 EUR) per month since early last year. Neither plexiq nor me is playing age of empires any more, so we don't see any future for this project. Its not that we expect to get money out of it... but we are not willing to pay such a high bill for something we are not really interested in any more. Sorry.

If someone would like to take over the project or any other project needs our data just drop me a note. But be warned, the dataset is HUGE and you need some knowledge in enterprise java and postgres to get the project deployed.

elorating will not be closed immediately (it even takes effort to remove the application from the servers... and I don't have that much time right now). You may expect it to be up and running about one or two more months.

Thanks to everyone who made elorating.com that successfull. It was a pleasure to work on the project and we had a great time with you guys!!
Thanks to everyone who helped out, and special thanks to Maik "Mick" Herbort who developed our html design!

We'd like to thank the guys at elorating.com for all the effort they've put in over the years. Their rating service has become the community standard, with many in the community still enjoying this game as a result of the service they provide.

You can discuss elorating.com's closure here.

Hopefully some last minute donations or another site can keep their service going. If not, we still have the power rating system, as well as Aleste's ELO service: http://www.undefeat.com/EsoTools/Ladder.aspx
